RSPCA Pet Insurance Review 2026
RSPCA is our top overall pick. It is not the cheapest and not the most premium. It just does everything well enough that most pet owners will be happy with it.
Premiums from $30/month for dogs, 80% reimbursement, up to $25,000 annual limit. Underwritten by Hollard. Last updated: June 2026.
The Short Version
RSPCA Pet Insurance wins on balance. The coverage is solid, the claims process is smoother than most, and the brand actually puts money back into animal welfare. That last part matters to me. If you want one recommendation and don't want to overthink it, this is it. Premiums are competitive but not the absolute lowest. The 80% reimbursement rate means you still pay 20% out of pocket, which stings on big claims. But the $0 excess option helps offset that for smaller visits.
What I Like
- Profits support RSPCA animal welfare work
- $0 excess option available
- Up to $25,000 annual limit
- Routine care add-on covers vaccinations and dental
- Claims processed in 5-10 business days (faster than most)
- Accepts pets up to 11 years old
What Could Be Better
- 80% reimbursement is not the highest (Petsy and Trupanion do 90%)
- No unlimited annual limit option
- Premium jumps noticeably after age 7
- Brachycephalic breed surcharge is steep

Claims Experience
RSPCA claims are handled by Hollard, one of Australia's largest underwriters. Most claims go through in 5-10 business days. The online portal is not the flashiest I have seen but it works. You upload the vet invoice, they assess, they pay. No app required. Customer reviews on ProductReview.com.au sit around 3.8/5 stars. The main complaints are about premium increases at renewal, not about claims being unfairly denied. That is actually a good sign. Most insurers cop heat for denying claims. RSPCA mostly cops heat for charging more at renewal. I would rather overpay slightly for a policy that pays out than underpay for one that finds excuses not to.
Who Should Get RSPCA
No confusing tier structure. Pick your excess, pick your reimbursement, done.
Pricing is competitive for young-to-middle-aged dogs. The sweet spot is insuring before age 4.
Profits go to the RSPCA. If you are going to pay for insurance anyway, might as well fund shelters.
French Bulldog owners: the $25,000 annual cap might not be enough. Trupanion's unlimited cover is a safer choice for breeds facing $10K+ surgeries.
My Take
I have a Frenchie, so RSPCA is not my personal pick — the brachycephalic surcharge is real and the cap feels tight for a breed that might need spinal surgery. But for most Australian pet owners with a healthy mutt or a Labrador? RSPCA is the easy answer. Good coverage, ethical brand, claims process that does not make you want to throw your laptop out the window. That is more than I can say for some others.
